The hostel

A house from 1905, not just another hostel

The building was the Gran Hotel Perú, one of the good hotels in Pacasmayo back in the port years. The name is still carved above the door.

Inside is what no new hotel in town can copy: the original tiled floors, the wooden balustrade, the high ceilings and the art on the walls.

Breakfast and home cooking in the same house

Breakfast from 8 to 10 and a set lunch Tuesday to Sunday, from 12 to 15. The set lunch is a starter, a main course, a drink and a dessert, with two or three choices that change every day. Neither meal is included in the room rate.

A point break left with a season from April to October. From the hostel the peak is 12 minutes away by mototaxi, or a little over half an hour walking with the board.

The wave at Chicama, in Puerto Malabrigo, is 55 km up the Panamericana Norte, about an hour to an hour and a quarter by car.

What to do

A block from the beach, half a block from the main square

The seafront wave breaks 130 metres from the door, the one in the centre of town, which you surf with no transport and no plan. The wooden pier and the town market are a walk away, and the skatepark is at the end of the new seafront.

A little further out, all of it there and back in a day: Puemape beach 22 km away, the El Cañoncillo forest with its lagoons at 24 km, and the huacas of San José de Moro.

I love this hostel and Pacasmayo. Both radiate warmth. The house has a warm and comfortable atmosphere thanks to the owners, the interior, the café and the shop. And it is very well located, right in the centre, quiet, one minute from the sea.

At Jr. Junín 36, in the centre of Pacasmayo: a block from the beach and half a block from the main square. Reception and the old building are at number 36, the new building at 35 and the shop at 32.
